Socks for Tots
This year Bethlehem will be working with Lutheran Social Services and Bright Holidays to bring the joy of Christmas to children who otherwise would have no Christmas at all. By cooperating with the principals in Duval County schools we are able to identify those children who are the most needy. By providing these children and their siblings with a few necessities - underwear, socks, a winter coat, a sleeping bag, ans a Publix gift card for food, they will experience the result of the gift of giving. Providence Christian School will also be providing each student with a non-electric toy, and each recipient is asked to write a thank you note to express their gratitude for the gifts they have received.
Our responsibility is simple. Bethlehem has volunteered to provide new socks for these children. In the Narthex you will find a box filled with candy canes. Attached to each candy cane is a shoe size. Then go to Wal-Mart only and purchase a bag of 6 pairs of socks. Each bag will cost between $5-$6. Feel free to grab as many candy canes as you would like.Bring the socks to church by November 20 and place them in the large gift wrapped box. We will need to purchase a total of 460 bags of socks. On Saturday, December 3rd we will pick up all of the items for specific children and have a wrapping party. Then on Saturday, December 10 we will host a Christmas party at Stonemont Apartment Complex for some of the recipients who live there. We will provide food, devotions and entertainment for the families. More information on this event will follow.
This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to those who live and go to school in Jacksonville - our own Jerusalem. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Pietrasiuk at 904.536.2871 or carolpiet@aol.com
